I recently installed Office 2007 and finally gave up with the product two days ago and re-installed my Office 2003. What a slug, I have the latest Dell 9200 2 Core Duo with 2 Gig of RAM and I felt like making a coffee between mouse clicks. What has happened to Microsoft? Do they actually use the software they produce or are they all running Macs?
Maybe Office 2008 will be better, but the cost! I would be interested to hear from others that have tried to use Office 2007. I won't go into any detail but there are quite a few sites out there commenting on why Office 2007 products are a problem...
65 Reasons Why Outlook 2007 Will Suck
Vista, Office and Outlook 2007 are a Nightmare
I should have carried out some research before installing. I have not installed Vista as yet either, I just can't afford the downtime.

Future versions of Windows to be fundamentally redesigned
Hot on the heels of news that quad-core processors could be appearing on laptops as early as the year 2008, Ars Technica recently published an article on future versions of Windows.
They interviewed Microsoft executive Ty Carlson, who is the director of technical strategy at Microsoft. According to Carlson, future versions of Windows will be “fundamentally redesigned” to cater to multi-core processors.
Windows Vista, he said, was just “designed to run on 1, 2, maybe 4 processors” compared to Carlson’s envisioning of computers with “excess of 8, 16, 64 and beyond processors” appearing on the market in the near future. TechRepublic >>> more
Alleged 'spam king' arrested
A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers has been arrested in the US.
US federal authorities said computer users across the web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk email.
Robert Alan Soloway is accused of using networks of compromised "zombie" computers to send out millions upon millions of spam emails.
"He's one of the top 10 spammers in the world," said Tim Cranton, a Microsoft lawyer who is senior director of the company's Worldwide internet Safety Programs. "He's a huge problem for our customers. This is a very good day."
A federal grand jury last week returned a 35-count indictment against Mr Soloway charging him with mail fraud, wire fraud, email fraud, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.
Mr Soloway pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon to all charges after a judge determined that - even with four bank accounts seized by the government - he was sufficiently well off to pay for his own lawyer.
Mr Soloway had been living in a ritzy apartment and drove an expensive Mercedes-Benz convertible, prosecutor Kathryn Warma said. Prosecutors are seeking to have him forfeit $US773,000 ($939,000) they say he made from his business, Newport Internet Marketing Corp. AustralianIT >>> more
Fibre announcement soon
FEDERAL communications minister Senator Helen Coonan says the government will make an announcement about its plans for the construction of a national high speed broadband network very shortly.
Senator Coonan said the public would have to wait and see what the government's plan was for a high speed fibre optic network.
"There's going to be an announcement very shortly," she told journalists. Telstra last year proposed building a $4 billion fibre-to-the-node network, but scrapped the plan after running into pricing and regulatory issues.
But the company has been speaking to the government about reviving the plan. Meanwhile, the so-called group of nine telcos led by Optus have proposed building a network of their own.
Treasurer Peter Costello yesterday promised a new high-speed broadband network for Australia's biggest cities will be built quickly and at no cost to taxpayers. AustralianIT
Fury as Telstra's axe falls
TELSTRA faced widespread condemnation yesterday after announcing the closure of 13 call centres and the loss of hundreds of jobs from regional centres.
The telecommunications giant plans to replace 17 technical support call centres with just four as part of plans to cull 12,000 jobs by 2010.
Although Telstra said the net job losses from yesterday's announcement would be 500, hundreds of workers in regional centres will be the hardest hit.
The four centres to remain will be in Townsville, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
According to Telstra, the greatest job losses will be in Launceston (257 jobs lost), Newcastle (219), Brisbane (250), Adelaide (143) and Wollongong (88).
State and federal politicians from all sides of politics called on Telstra to reconsider.
"It's no excuse to argue this is about improved service delivery or improving technology," Tasmanian Community Development Minister Michelle O'Byrne said. "This is about ripping Tasmanian jobs, careers and livelihoods out of the state in favour of metropolitan centres interstate."
State Liberal oppositions echoed Ms O'Byrne's sentiments, as did some federal Coalition backbenchers nervous about facing an election later this year.
Tasmanian Liberal MP Michael Ferguson accused Telstra of being "foolish and misguided" and signalled a backbench push to lobby federal Communications Minister Helen Coonan to intervene. AustralianIT >>> more
